Description
α-Conotoxin AuIB is a unique 4/6 α-conotoxin derived from the venom of Conus aulicus, consisting of 15 amino acid residues. It is a potent and selective α3β4 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) antagonist. By inhibiting the activity of nAChRs, α-conotoxin AuIB is able to reduce neuronal excitability, thereby affecting the transmission of neural signals. This mechanism makes α-conotoxin AuIB valuable in studying neurotransmission and related diseases. Unlike most α-conotoxins, which typically inhibit multiple nAChR subtypes (usually 2-3) with comparable potency, α-conotoxin AuIB exhibits a distinctive selectivity by specifically targeting the α3β4 nAChR subtype.
