Description
ω-Conotoxin CVIB is a peptide toxin containing 25 amino acids and three disulfide bonds, originally isolated from the venom of the piscivorous cone snail, Conus catus. It functions as a blocker of voltage-gated calcium channels, particularly in sensory neurons involved in processing primary nociceptive information, specifically targeting N-type and P/Q-type voltage-gated calcium channels, which play a crucial role in the modulation of neurotransmitter release and pain signaling pathways. There are significant differences in the effectiveness of ω-conotoxin CVIB against different types of calcium channels. When compared to other ω-conotoxins, ω-conotoxin CVIB exhibits relatively weaker inhibitory effects on N-type channels. In addition, its inhibitory effect of P/Q-type channels can be considered moderate.
