Description
ω-Conotoxin CVIE is a peptide toxin initially extracted from the venom of the sea snail-cat cone, Conus catus. This peptide serves as a selective blocker for N-type voltage-gated calcium channels. It is believed that ω-conotoxin CVIE mainly interacts with the extracellular components of these channels, while also influencing the binding kinetics and affinity of calcium channels through its interaction with the channels' intracellular regions and auxiliary subunits. Notably, ω-conotoxin CVIE exhibits a higher affinity for inactivated calcium channels. Given the pivotal role of voltage-gated calcium channels in regulating neuronal excitability and the transduction of signals in nociceptors, ω-conotoxin CVIE has shown promise in alleviating both neuropathic and inflammatory pain and can be used as a potential therapeutic agent to inhibit nociceptive pain pathways.
