Description
µ-Conotoxin CnIIIC is a potent, highly selective and durable peptide toxin derived from the venom of the marine cone snail species Conus consors and belongs to the µ-conotoxin family. This toxin is known for its ability to block voltage-gated sodium channels, particularly subtype Nav1.4, which are crucial for the transmission of electrical signals in muscle skeletal systems. Therefore, µ-conotoxin CnIIIC serves as a valuable tool for research focused on Nav1.4 channels. In addition, µ-conotoxin CnIIIC has also been shown to inhibit Nav1.2 channels at a concentration of 1 µM and has a mild blocking effect on Nav1.7 channels. However, it exhibits no significant action on Nav1.5 and Nav1.8 channels. In addition to its action on sodium channels, µ-conotoxin CnIIIC acts as a blocker of the α3β2 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR), and to a lesser extent, it affects the α7 and α4β2 receptor subtypes.
