Description

Yessotoxin is a marine biotoxin produced by specific dinoflagellates, notably Protoceratium reticulatum, Lingulodinium polyedrum, and Gonyaulax spinifera. This toxin is often linked to harmful algal blooms and can accumulate in shellfish, posing a health risk to humans who consume contaminated seafood. Structurally, yessotoxin is a complex polyether compound and is renowned for its capacity to disrupt cellular calcium balance. Initially, yessotoxin was classified among the group of diarrhetic shellfish poisons.
