Characteristic
Agaro-oligosaccharide (AO) is a new type of marine functional oligosaccharide which is the product of the degradation of agarose. AO can be divided into agarose oligosaccharide or new agarose oligosaccharide based on the apparent differences in the reducing end. Compared to polysaccharides, AO obtained by degradation shows better water solubility and is more easily absorbed by the body. In addition, AO not only has the general properties of functional oligosaccharides, but also has many physiological functional properties that cannot be replaced by ordinary oligosaccharides, such as strong anti-cancer, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-virus activities. Therefore, AO is an oligosaccharide with great potential for development.

Applications
- Pharmaceutical industry
- AO has a good protective effect against liver injury.
- AO has a significant inhibitory effect on blood vessel formation and can be used to treat cardiovascular diseases.
- AO can prevent and treat chronic inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.
- AO is non-toxic and highly safe. It is derived from natural seaweed and can be used as an additive to cosmetics.
- AO is able to bond with a large number of water molecules to form hydrogen bonds. It has good hygroscopic properties and can keep the skin moist.
- Food industry
- AO can be widely used in dairy products. It is a new type of prebiotic that selectively stimulates the growth and proliferation of beneficial bacteria such as bifidobacteria and lactobacilli.
- AO is an effective natural preservative. It is used to maintain the freshness of food and beverages and to prevent them from discoloration, spoilage and oxidation.
- AO can be used as a filler and dispersant for intensive sweeteners.
