Characteristic
The green marine microalga Nannochloropsis oculata, formerly known as "marine Chlorella" and belonging to the family Eustigmatophyceae. It has a diameter of about 1-2 µm and a very simple ultrastructure with reduced structural elements that easily digest by aquatic animals. Nannochloropsis oculata possesses polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), with 5% of its dry biomass made up of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), as well as various phytopigments and carotenoids.
